Volunteering Abroad with Meditation: A Perfect Escape from Stress with Digital Detoxification

Welcome to our latest story for you about volunteering and meditation, recently we have covered various articles on spiritual journeys abroad in the land of Buddha. Let's weigh in more on stress relieving with Meditation.

Do you constantly find yourself in a cycle of stress? Looking for a travel abroad package for a mindful vacation? Today, we will discuss how escaping abroad for a relaxing trip could be a fulfilling experience. Before that, one simple question? When did you meditate last time during your work hours?

On Feb 15, 2023, The American Institute of Stress, released a statement:

80% of workers feel stress on the job, nearly half say they need help in learning how to manage stress and 42% say their coworkers need such help. 25% have felt like screaming or shouting because of job stress, 10% are concerned about an individual at work they fear could become violent.

Another report said that:

Women (22.7%) were more likely than men (19.7%) to experience high or very high levels of work-related stress.

Ok. Admit it. You are not alone in the circle of stress.

Impact of stress on mind and body

Stress can be caused by a wide range of factors such as a toxic workplace environment, financial problems, being under career development  pressure, or major life changes, and so on. But the impact remains the same. Stress affects both body and mind in various aspects of physical, emotional, and mental health.

Here’s an explanation of how stress affects a person’s mind and body.

ON THE MIND

ON THE BODY

Emotional distress:

Stress can cause mental suffering to a person by arising feelings of anxiety, depression, and mood swings.

Muscle aches:

Many research shows that stress is one of the factors that cause stress (mainly work-related stress). With a sudden or prolonged period of stress.

Sleep disturbances:

Stress can disrupt one’s sleeping pattern causing anxious thoughts to occur at night.

Skin:

Excessive stress can cause premature aging of skin. Which is why if you want to have great glowing skin, you must avoid stress.

Imbalanced functioning:

A high level of stress impairs overall performance in daily life by affecting productivity, memory, concentration, and decision-making abilities.

Reproductive system:

Chronic stress causes the hormonal balance in a body to be disrupted, affecting fertility and reproductive health. In women, stress can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, fertility issues, and hormonal imbalance. In men, stress can affect sperm production and can even cause erectile dysfunction.

But Sorry, and Thank you!

You need to detox against your stressful digital occupation to calm your whole body anatomy, organically. That also means, nobody is going to advise you on  intentionally taking a break from electronic devices and online activities to reduce stress, improve mental well-being.

Like mentioned earlier, one needs to regain a sense of balance in life. That is why travelers are finding joy in moving from one country to another. Especially volunteering abroad with a cause. One idea is to signup a package for spiritual pathways. It leads to a dharmic journey, cleanse your mind, and prepares you to avoid less screen time - in other words digital detoxification.

The beauty of Digital Detoxification?

Meditation is the method of being aware of whatever you are doing. It teaches you many aspects of anatomy such as 7 main chakras.  In simple terms, it means alertness, awareness, and mindfulness. It is a spiritual way to cleanse and heal the inner body. Practicing meditation techniques helps to cleanse the negative emotions and aura from your body, mind, and soul.

Many of our FDIP volunteers have experienced the benefits of meditation and have even thanked us for letting them be a part of such a spiritual package with Buddhist meditations. For many years, meditation has been the absolute way to reduce stress. Many spiritual seekers chose Asian regions for a green atmosphere, holy sites, and prefer  monasteries to meditate. In other words, less technologically connected landmarks.

Why combine volunteering with meditation?

Volunteering is the act of offering time, skills, and resources to individuals and organizations. And by engaging with the sheer practice of meditation, it can boost mental peace and inner satisfaction. We FDIP has many examples of volunteers who believed in “Giving is receiving”. But for self discovery the same volunteers opted in for meditation and wellness activities in their free time.

Let us share you an example and activity from one of our recent volunteers:

In February 2024, Our Volunteer Marlene from Switzerland signed up for volunteering at Buddhist Monastery and School. She nearly spent 28 days doing Buddhist Monastery Volunteer and Meditation program. She used to be a wellness counselor in Switzerland and shared that she rarely had time for herself, and she dedicated lots of her time to others. When he/she started doing community work, though it was strenuous, she had a chance to connect more deeply with local students and learn about their challenging situations, it led to discover that “they have numerous problems in life, but they are cheerful and happy”. It allowed her to rediscover the joy of simple pleasures, and prioritize self-care and well-being.

The solution:

Instead of forceful meditation, she asked for a guru to practice with. FDIP arranged a 15-days meditation package for her, where she was coached for meditation everyday, her daily fast foods are replaced with fresh fruits, and organic vegetables, routine of massage to pamper herself, and traveling to monasteries and vibrant natural landmarks.

The main purpose for people to join a volunteer program or meditation is to find peace and reduce the stress that is going on in their life. And it reestablished a healthy lifestyle.

So why not combine both of them and volunteer abroad at a meditation camp? Our FDIP has many ongoing meditation campaigns that you can participate in. Many of our volunteers who participated in our meditation campaign have experienced a profound personal transformation, and self-awareness.

There are many meditation campaigns provided by FDIP that are organized in a quiet and warm atmosphere. At the same time you’ll explore new cultures and cuisines.

Let us know if you wish to start a mindful journey. Stay safe and stress-free.
