Leonardo DiCaprio: A Celebrity Who Turned into A Climate Activist

The academy award winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio made a historical statement while receiving his Oscar Awards for his movie Revenant in 2016. It was inspiring the way he portrayed his movie as a symbol of the relationship between man and the natural world. He mentioned global warming and the increasing temperature of the planet and stated firmly that “Climate Change is Real”. He appealed to support all the leaders from around the world who are working for humanity. His closing statement will always be remembered “Let us not take this planet for granted, I do not take this night for granted”.

DiCaprio’s upcoming movie Killers of the Flower Moon directed by Martin Scorsese is about a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s, committed after oil was discovered on tribal land. It is a dramatic representation of how human history has witnessed the domination of tribal groups from elite classes to exploit the resources from their land.

Leonardo’s last project Don’t Look Up was a satirical representation of the current state of the world, and its leaders who have been ignoring the issues of climate change.

With these trends of his works, we can clearly see that he is in the path of greater vision. The Inception fame is becoming a symbol, a voice, he is transitioning from being a heartthrob celebrity to a planet lover, a climate activist.

Leonardo DiCaprio and  Climate Change

With the establishment of The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation , Leo started his initiatives to control climate change. The foundation later merged with Re:wild and now the organization is working more extensively to address the environment issues.

He has been using his popularity as a global voice to raise awareness about the Climate Change. He has been utilizing his media presence as a medium to convey messages with the appeal for climate action.

Leo also has been fulfilling his role  as a UN Messenger of Peace with a special focus on climate change. Whether it is by narrating the documentaries like "11th Hour" and "Before the Flood" , or being close to nature via movies like "The Revenant", Leo has always been conveying his message to the world , how interconnected  we are with the natural world.

DiCaprio’s Love for Environment

From his secret visit to Nepal as a representative of WWF to congratulate Natural Guards for doubling the tiger population to donating to a number of earth-saving charities, Leonardo has different ways to reflect his love for the environment and natural world.

A strong passion towards the environment has been observed in DiCaprio's actions as time goes by. When he was a heartthrob of Hollywood with his career in the epitome, he switched his narratives to environment friendly causes, he even sacrificed his valuable times in the projects that were nonprofits and he selflessly dedicated his efforts to advocate for the climate actions.

Personally he drives electric vehicles, encourages renewable products and has developed sustainable habits to run his personal life as far as possible. His genuine concern for the environmental issues, and his entire personality reflecting his awareness towards climate issues definitely puts him in the list of environment lovers of this generation, that will inspire everyone.

Leo in the Path of Activism

From a child with a dream of becoming a marine biologist to a man delivering strong statements to the world as the UN Messenger of peace, DiCaprio has grown with time for the natural world and environment. By the time he founded The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation and met Al Gore, he met the vice president of the USA at the moment, Leo started getting involved more into the climate causes.

A boy with a troubled childhood becomes a young actor winning the hearts of the entire world, later he establishes himself in Hollywood as a matured man with perspective. In recent years, the The Wolf of Wall Street star seems to be more inclined to spend his time in advocacy for environmental causes.

The Titanic star’s journey from a child actor, to a male lead of movies , to philanthropist, to environmentalist and to climate activist is really inspiring for every individual concerned about the fate of our planet.
