My Teaching Experience with Buddhist Monks While Living in a Monastery

TweetHi, I am Zita. I traveled all the way from Budapest to Kathmandu to participate in a Buddhist Monastery volunteer program in Nepal. I must say it was one of the most memorable journeys I ever had.

The mystic scenery of Kathmandu combined with the Buddhist environment of the monastery was a complete escape for me from my quotidian life in Hungary.
I felt welcomed in the very hospitable environment of Nepal and Nepalese people. Smiling with innocent looks was something like they inherited in their culture. I was mesmerized by the way I was treated. It was beautiful!
Teaching the monk kids was definitely an experience I will remember forever. I tried my best to help them learn the communication skills, English grammar and punctuations and other areas of English communications that they would need in future to spread their message of Buddhism to the world.

In exchange I learnt about empathy and compassion from these monks. I learned how we could be detached from our worldly needs and desires. I learned to be grateful for every little thing in our lives. The monks were always happy, smiling and free of unnecessary attachments.
I am really thankful to Volunteer FDIP for providing me this opportunity of volunteering in a Buddhist monastery. It was an experience that I will always keep in my memories.
