Meditation in Everest

A Life Changing Spiritual Journey

Last Updated: July 14, 2023

Meditation in Everest

Mount Everest, a mystic place for those who ponder about the wonders of this planet. With the Tibetan  name Chomolungma which means "Goddess Mother of the World"  and Nepali name ‘Sagarmatha’ which means ‘forehead touching the sky’, this majestic mountain is the only place that can bring you closest to the sky and space.

Being close to the Himalayan mountains helps you realize the nothingness of your being. When you stand in front of a mountain you realize how mighty this universe is and how our sorrows, fears and worries are nothing. We are just a tiny particle in this universe. Walking across the trails of Himalayan ranges and beholding awe-inspiring peaks like Everest will enchant your spirit and your trip to Mt. Everest won’t be just a mere trek, it will become a spiritual journey, a mindful experience of lifetime.

This trip has been a life changing journey that will delve you into the Himalayan Buddhism while you pass through the Everest regions with rich cultural and spiritual traditions.

From the moment I landed in Kathmandu till I reached the base camp of Everest, I was delighted to see the energy possessed by different places of Nepal, and the mystic Sherpa traditions and cultures took my journey away from the world I used to be in.

I realized how these gigantic Himalayan mountains have been the source of peace and tranquility over the millions of years. You could feel the grandeur and mystic nature of these mountains when you behold the peaks from the base camp.

A Spiritual Retreat I will Always Remember

From the moment I reached Lukla, I could feel the spread by the himalayan mountains in that region. Vibrant Namche Bazaar blessed with the Sherpa culture, though had been influenced by the modern world, still had its essence of Tibetan culture.

While passing through the trails of Tengbuche, Dingbuche Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp (5364m) , I was awe-inspired to visit different Buddhist Monasteries. The peaceful atmosphere of Everest region and majestic architecture of the monastery were something beyond my imagination. I could not fathom how in such a remote part of the world these Buddhist devotees could build something that intricate and artistic.

The panoramic views of Mountain peaks were soul soothing. Walking above the altitude of 4000m makes you count your each breath, which ultimately sends you one step closer to your spirit. This journey then becomes something more than a trekking for you, it becomes a spiritual retreat.

Finally, Meditation in Everest

Finally the moment arrived, when I watched the summit of Everest touching the sky, I realized that the point where actually the land meets the space. That was the moment of awe and wonder, when you understand how connected we are with this universe.

It took me time to register the beauty and majesty of the Himalayas, for a few minutes I didn’t want to do anything, I just wanted to stay in front of the mighty Everest and behold its profundity.

The golden glow with the early morning sunlight was illuminating the summit of Everest just like enlightenment illuminates our spirits. The sight was indescribable in words. I had never witnessed such an immense scale of natural wonder.

I sat on the ground, with my legs crossed in a meditation position, I rested my hands, closed my eyes and went into the meditative mode and mighty Everest was right in front of me, as my companion in this spiritual journey of mindfulness. All the fears, all the worries about the life were gone, there was just me and mighty Everest there.

For a moment, I felt like the peak of Everest was a medium connecting my soul to the mighty universe, I surrendered myself to the fate of the universe, I realized that in front of these mighty Sky and Mountains I am nothing, and there is nothing that I should be worried about. This sense of nothingness relieved all the pains and grieves that I had.
