How to Help Japan 2024 Earthquake Victims and Survivors

At least 62 people lost their lives following a devastating earthquake that struck central Japan on New Year's Day. The magnitude 7.6 earthquake, centered in Ishikawa prefecture, triggered tsunami warnings for the western coastal regions. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida addressed reporters after a disaster emergency meeting, revealing that a road had been destroyed, hindering access to the affected area. The Japan Fire Department, responding to distress calls, reported incidents of individuals being trapped under collapsed buildings. Rescue operations are underway as dedicated teams of workers tirelessly search for survivors in the aftermath of the tragic event.

The earthquake's severe impact has resulted in substantial casualties and destruction. Disrupted routes have complicated rescue efforts, necessitating prompt and coordinated action from emergency services. Japanese authorities are managing the aftermath, with rescue teams dedicated to finding and assisting survivors in the debris. The country grieves for the lost lives and anticipates updates on rescue operations, hoping for good news amidst this disaster.

Who is Helping for Earthquake in Japan

After the earthquake in Japan, several national and international organizations are lending the hands of support to help the affected people in Japan earthquake. Here are few honorable mentions:

Japanese Red Cross Society

Post-disaster, the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) promptly began its response. Affected area branches, Red Cross hospitals, and Blood Centers are assessing the damage. On January 2nd, various teams were deployed for relief and assessment, including staffs at the disaster control headquarters, members from three hospitals in Ishikawa Prefecture, and two individuals in the Cabinet Office's National Assessment Team. Additionally, team members were sent from JRCS headquarters to Ishikawa. The JRCS is coordinating closely with government authorities and other domestic organizations, and regularly sharing information with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid

High Representative and Commissioner for Crisis Management  of EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid expressed profound sorrow for the recent earthquake in Japan and the tragic plane collision. They extended condolences to the victims and their families, acknowledging the devastation and lauding the efforts of rescue teams. Affirming full solidarity with Japan, the European Union pledges readiness to provide any necessary support to the affected authorities during this challenging period.
