How to Help Victims and Survivors of Morocco’s Earthquake

Late Friday night, a rare and potent earthquake struck Morocco, causing widespread building damage and a death toll exceeding 2,000 (so far). The magnitude 6.8 quake, the country's most powerful in 120 years, primarily impacted remote areas near the High Atlas Mountains.

Solidarity efforts are underway as the Red Cross suggests the need for long-term aid in Morocco following a devastating earthquake that struck on Friday night. Various organizations are appealing for donations to assist the earthquake victims. The disaster claimed the lives of at least 2,000 people and left thousands injured, with many in critical condition. Emergency services are still searching for survivors, and the extent of material damage is substantial.

How Global Community are Responding in Support

In response to the devastating earthquake in Morocco, France has initiated local government-funded emergency aid, according to the French foreign ministry. Meanwhile, German leaders have expressed their condolences to the affected nation. The US has offered to provide any necessary assistance to Morocco in the wake of the recent tragedy. Spain's military emergency unit, as well as the Spanish embassy and consulates, are also available to assist Morocco.

How Organizations are Helping in Morocco Earthquake

The French Red Cross is urging for financial donations to aid in supplying essential necessities in collaboration with on-site Red Crescent teams. Given the substantial damage, the Red Cross emphasizes the need to prepare for long-term support and requests only monetary contributions, declining donations in kind.

UNICEF is prepared to offer humanitarian assistance to children and is calling for donations. The United Nations agency states that their teams are already present at the site, working closely with the Moroccan government to coordinate a response that addresses the needs of children and their families.
