How to Help Nepal Earthquake Victims

In the earthquake that struck Jajarkot, Nepal in the middle of the night on Friday November 3, almost 128 individuals lost their lives so far. The earthquake, which was centered around Jajarkot, not only caused human casualties but also resulted in the damage of properties worth billions. While around hundreds have lost their lives in the earthquake, thousands have been reported injured.

A meeting of authorities from the Ministry of Home Affairs has been initiated to discuss relief, rescue, and rehabilitation in the areas affected by the earthquake in Jajarkot, Rukum West, and surrounding regions.

Around the epicenter in and around Ramedanda of Jajarkot district, there have been 109 aftershocks recorded. The earthquake that occurred on Friday night was of 6.4 magnitudes.

As more details are yet to be revealed, it is estimated that a considerable number of human casualties might have occurred, along with significant physical damages.

Local Organizations

Some local organizations in Nepal are helping the victims and survivors of the earthquake in this critical time. Here we would like to mention few of such initiatives.

Starts Foundation: With a goal to reach out to the communities through utilization of local community volunteers and local government organizations in the affected areas, Starts Foundation is planning to continue in providing the rural communities with blankets, food, tents, and basic needs.

The British School Kathmandu: In this appeal, The British School in Kathmandu is asking for support to Jajarkot earthquake survivors by raising funds in order to send goods directly to the affected area and support the relief effort, in partnership with the Blink Now Foundation.

International Organizations

USAID

USAID has also released a statement saying that they are deeply saddened by the devastating impact of the earthquake in the western Nepal. USAID and partners are assessing damages & the impact of the disaster on the ground. The emergency relief items provided by the organization are currently being transported to the affected areas.

World Food Progamme (WFP)

WFP has announced that the organization is helping the Nepal government and partners in mobilizing relief supplies to the Nepal Jajarkot earthquake victims and survivors.
