How to Help Libya Flood Victims

Severe flooding in eastern Libya caused over 5,000 losing their lives and 10,000 missing. Additionally, 7,000 people are reported injured in the aftermath of the Sunday Storm Daniel.

The port city of Derna was undoubtedly the hardest hit. The breach of two dams resulted in a tidal wave that carved a path through the city with immense force. While there were also floods in other cities, the water's rise was slower in those areas.

Libya Needs Help

The Red Cross area manager emphasizes the urgency of delivering international aid to Libya. Funds are being managed to the Libyan Red Crescent to cover immediate relief expenses. The Turkish Red Crescent is currently coordinating a relief flight to the hardest-hit region. The UN humanitarian coordinator in Libya called on the international community to provide rapid assistance. The German Red Cross plans to send relief supplies promptly.

Your contribution to the  Children's Emergency Appeal can provide assistance to children and families who have suffered profound hardships due to floods and natural disasters.

ICRC: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have stated that they are on the ground in Libya responding to urgent humanitarian needs.
