Roe v Wade : How Anti-Abortion Laws are Affecting Women Psychology?

The United States Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, abolishing the constitutional right to abortion.  The decision has declared that any pregnancy cannot be terminated after fifteen weeks regardless of the cause.

Many people in the US are not willing to accept this decision. Women's reproductive health and psychology are very much correlated. This verdict is definitely going to affect the psychology and mental health of the women in the US.

State Abortion Ban and Women’s Reaction

It is clearly visible that many of the women right activist are not happy with the decision as abortion rights protesters can be seen demonstrating in front of the Supreme Court after the decision of abortion ban was released.

Many women in the US feel that the ban in at least 8 states took away the constitutional right from the US citizens.

But anti-abortion campaigners are considering this day as a "day for celebration".

In a nutshell, this decision of Supreme Court is expected to mean about 36 million women of reproductive age will lose access to abortion in their states

Many abortion clinics are beginning to shut after Supreme Court ruling.

Roe v Wade, State Abortion Ban and Women’s Psychology

It is expected that restricting or banning abortion would increase emotional, relational, and social stress for anyone who can get pregnant.

It is feared that there could be lasting negative mental health effects like anxiety, depression, that caused by an unwanted pregnancy.

Women with psychological health issues were found to have a higher rate of pregnancy complications, and are likelier to have nonconsensual sex. Therefore, the state abortion ban is more likely to affect the women with psychological and mental health issues.
