Thousands of international volunteers visit Africa every year to experience diverse cultures, unusual animals, and meaningful contributions to the local community. Like many countries of the world, Africa travel services are also resumed after COVID restrictions. Volunteer opportunities abound in Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, and Kenya. Volunteering in Africa ranges from animal and wildlife conservation to community development, childcare, and volunteer teaching.
Volunteer and Travel Opportunities in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa
KENYA
Kindergartens in Kenya have classrooms of between 15 and 100 children that are generally under-resourced. As a Kindergarten volunteer in Kenya, you will assist in various preschools, daycare centres, and kindergartens. Depending on the centre, you may work with children aged 1 to 6. The kids love engaging with volunteers and will keep you busy. Volunteer tasks often include:
- Basic English and maths teaching
- Farm work assistance
- feeding the kids
- cleaning and cooking
- Assist local teachers
UGANDA
There are opportunities in many different fields in Uganda, and each of them will make a big difference in people's lives. This is because Uganda has had problems for decades, and half of its people are under 18 years old, with many of them living on the streets. Volunteer projects in Uganda are based in Kampala and include volunteer work in orphanages, clinics, hospitals, and primary and secondary schools.;
TANZANIA
In many poor areas of Tanzania, it is hard to get healthcare or can't afford it. This is something that the Medical Volunteer Project wants to change by putting volunteers in clinics that help weak people. The work as a medical volunteer will be in a local clinic or hospital, shadowing doctors and nurses and helping them with their daily tasks. Campaigns are held in local villages, where primary medical care isn't always easy to find.
SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa volunteer programs include Wildlife conservation. Volunteering with Wildlife Conservation allows you to participate in various conservation projects while living on the reserve. You'll be helping wildlife conservation while enjoying the stunning Kruger National Park. Before you start volunteering, you will go through an orientation to learn more about the reserve, reserve management, basic bush ecology, and how your volunteer effort contributes to the ongoing work on the reserve.
