World Central Kitchen: Everything You Should Know as a Volunteer and Humanitarian Worker

In a recent event of the Israel- Gaza war, seven workers of World Central Kitchen (WCK) were hit and killed by Israeli airstrike, who were delivering food in Gaza .

The incident of this globally recognized aid group's members being under attack has touched off global outrage and condemnation.

As an International Volunteer Abroad organization who has been serving the developing part of the world with the enrollment of volunteers and humanitarian workers since 2014, we the Volunteer FDIP team is also deeply saddened by this incident and today we would like to mourn for those who lost lives in this tragic incident.

As an honoring gesture for this organization’s effort to help those who were in extreme need of help against hunger, today we will be exploring everything about World Central Kitchen.

What is World Central Kitchen (WCK)

World Central Kitchen is a non profit organization that has been providing fresh meals in the crisis zones as an initiative to fight against hunger. Founded in 2010 by Spanish American chef and restaurateur José Andrés, WCK has been serving with emergency food relief ever since in different events of crisis.

The organization is lead by the value that food is universal human right. An innovative concept of involving professional chefs in humanitarian causes, WCK has been working extensively to provide food in the most hygenic and sustainable ways.

So far the organization has worked in dozens of affected areas and currently they are helping in regions of Haiti, Ukraine and Gaza Strip , however for the Gaza strip they have paused their operations until further notice due to recent events.

Israel Gaza War and World Central Kitchen

WCK had  been bringing food to affected people in the Israel-Hamas war since October. In Gaza, as the group stated, it has provided more than 43 million meals to Palestinians.In Gaza, the group says it has provided more than 43 million meals to Palestinians. As per World Central Kitchen, the workers had provided 11.5 million meals in the first 10 weeks of the war.

This incident that claimed the lives of humanitarian workers from different part of the world who were British, Canadian-American, Polish  and Australian nationals, has definitely added new questions about Israel-Gaza war.

The Concerns of Global Volunteers and Human Rights Activists

This planet is livable and hopeful mostly because of those compassionate souls, who care about others. Volunteers and humanitarian workers across the world had been putting tremendous amount of effort and energy to help everyone live a humanly life.

The incident in Gaza over World Central Kitchen is concerning for every human right workers in the world. It is the responsibility of every world leader and communities to ensure a safe and secured environment for everyone who are working selflessly to help the people in crises.
