My Experience at Buddhist Temple and Community of Chiang Mai, Thailand

Hi, I am Julian from Germany. Today, I am going to share with you my 1 week experience with a Buddhist Temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

In February of 2025, me and my friends decided to go to different places in Thailand. Apart from my time with friends, I also dedicated a week for a meditation and volunteer experience with Volunteer FDIP.

Regarding the destination for this purpose, from the very first moment I’ve been leaning towards Chiang Mai in Thailand due to its better accessibility. I was particularly interested in understanding the unique experiences Chiang Mai might offer during my stay at the monastery.

After careful consideration, I have decided to proceed with Thailand. This decision was primarily based on the convenience of travel, as I will already be in Thailand before and after my retreat, making the logistics much simpler. Additionally, the weather conditions during my planned travel dates seem more favorable in Thailand.

I was excited about the opportunity to immerse myself in the programs offered in Thailand and am confident it will be a meaningful experience. I am really grateful for the very cooperative team of Volunteer FDIP who successfully managed everything for this memorable trip I had in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai was a lovely place with very friendly people. Blessed with ancient temples, this city offered me something I was excited about before starting my trip. I stayed in a Buddhist temple and learned a lot from the wise communication with the monks.

Though my primary goal of joining this project was to stay in the Buddhist monastery, I also helped a local community school in my free time as I wanted to immerse myself more to the community of Chiang Mai.
