The best time to travel to Germany depends on the individual interests of a traveler and of course the region in which they are located. As in most countries in Central Europe, the period from June to August is the main travel season.

May and September, for example, can be extremely interesting months with excellent weather, most recently the previously unstable April also had good weather, and October also often has beautiful autumn weather.

Annual precipitation ranges from 500-700mm in the north to over 2000mm in the wettest parts of the Alps. Temperatures are milder in the north, averaging 9°C annually and 2°C in winter. The mountains are colder, with an average of 2°C and -6°C in winter, while the south experiences more extreme temperatures overall.

Extreme climate far north

The far north of Germany, along the Baltic Sea, borders Denmark and has a climate close to that of its northern neighbor. In contrast to the northwest with Lower Saxony, the far north, which still has an oceanic climate, but has colder temperatures and much less precipitation than its neighbor.

Rhine Valley climate

Cities located along the Rhine Valley such as Düsseldorf, Cologne or Bonn experience very mild winters as well as hot and dry summers, making this part of Germany one of the most pleasant climate and temperature regions.

Eastern and central climate

The climate in eastern and central Germany is continental. In Berlin, the country's capital, for example, there are very long and rather cold winters. On the other hand, summers are hot and rather dry. In this part of the country there are also large temperature differences, which, like the seasons, are well pronounced, as in the neighboring Czech Republic, Prague.
