Budhha Purnima is widely celebrated as Lord Buddha’s Birthday in different parts of the world. It is the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar and one of the most valued  festivals of the Buddhists and is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

Buddha Jayanti is observed on the full moon of May and remembers Buddha's enlightenment . The day honors Lord Gautam Buddha, who taught nonviolence, compassion, and tolerance.

Besides "Buddha" and the name Siddhārtha Gautama (Pali: Siddhattha Gotama), he was also known by other names and titles, such as Shakyamuni. It is believed that there are different forms of buddha that include bodhisattva and on. On the day of buddha purnima, these forms of buddha are also worshiped. 

The founder of Buddism was born into a royal Shakya clan family, but chose lay life. According to Buddhist belief, Buddha awakened after several years of mendicancy, meditation, and fasting to learn the workings of the reincarnation cycle and how to escape.
