Sri Lanka School Teaching Volunteer Program

Sri Lanka is a fascinating destination. The pearl-shaped country of the Indian Ocean is a biodiverse and agriculturally significant location. Sri Lanka draws visitors with its boundless beaches, ancient ruins, kind people, elephants in plenty, rolling waves, inexpensive rates, interesting trains, famous tea, and delectable cuisine. This island packs an incredible variety of sights into its little size. The Indian Ocean laps the coastline, which is surrounded by beautiful – and often refreshingly unspoiled – beaches, while the mainland provides a broad range of landscapes, from wildlife-rich lowland jungles to misty hills covered in tea plantations.

Sri Lanka is eager to develop its educational system, and its people are optimistic and willing to work hard to obtain a better life. Conversational English is highly important in Sri Lanka since it helps secure higher-paying employment and opens the door to more chances in the future. Young people in Sri Lanka are looking for a solid English foundation so that they can pull themselves and their communities out of poverty. Unfortunately, public schools are frequently underfunded, and there is a teacher shortage. This has a significant impact on the children of low-income households who cannot afford pricey private school.

Volunteer’s Roles Responsibilities and Activities

If you join this English teaching program, you will teach at Galle's primary or middle schools. You can teach individually or as an assistant to a local English instructor, depending on your expertise. Sri Lankan schools have their own curriculum and texts, which you will use to educate the kids. A good command of the English language is essential for success in today's globalized world, and your assistance will be critical in ensuring happy and productive lives for these disadvantaged children. The love and enthusiasm you share with them will go a long way toward motivating and inspiring the youngsters to realize their greatest potential.

Arrival and Orientation

Our staff will receive you at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake and take you to your community home or host family lodging. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax and enjoy the hospitality of Sri Lanka. You will meet your coordinators and fellow group members formally. During orientation, you will learn more about Sri Lanka and your program. Later in your vacation, you will go to Sri Lanka, a country recognized for its rich history and hospitality.

Accommodation

10 to 15 persons can sleep in the shared residence. There is hostel-style group housing available, with gender-specific dormitory rooms. Group leaders have their own sleeping quarters. Wi-Fi, dining and living rooms, and indoor baths are all available. Depending on the size of the event, a host family may also be assigned. Our host families have been thoroughly vetted, have been with us for several years, and come highly recommended by previous participants. Upgraded accommodations are available upon request.

Free Time Travel Activities in Galle

Galle, Sri Lanka, is well-known across Asia for its palm-fringed beaches and water activities such as surfing. It is a historically significant city with medieval mosques, churches, and defenses. The UNESCO World Heritage Site architecture of Galle eloquently depicts Portuguese, Dutch, and British history. In the meantime, you may relax and explore Galle. If this is your last day in the program, our team will assist you in determining your future steps. Those that stick with the program will get a two-day weekend to unwind. Placements that last longer than a week are handled similarly. You'll be working on the project Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are entirely open for exploration.
