Costa Rica Community Development Volunteer Program
Last Updated: January 15, 2024
TweetCosta Rica is famed for its national parks which provide exhilarating activities like river rafting, canyoning, cave tubing, and zip lining. It's also one of the best places to observe rare species like macaws, sea turtles, and charming sloths if you're an animal lover. Costa Rica is known for its "rich coast," which is at the forefront of numerous trends, including surfing, farm-to-table restaurants, and sustainable tourism. With half a million species ranging from insects to the enormous anteaters that consume them, it is one of the world's most biodiverse countries, and it also safeguards one-quarter of its natural territories by law. Costa Rica is a biodiversity hotspot. It is home to pristine rainforests, volcanic volcanoes, and tangled mangroves that sustain an astounding range of animals, from sloths to rainbow-billed toucans, making it one of the world's most biodiverse locations.
You will get the opportunity to work on a community development project with local people in a lively manner. It may mean excavating, painting, and carpentry in ways you've never seen or done before, or it could mean offering medical aid, teaching in local schools, or simply sharing your love and experience with the less fortunates. This initiative is about putting your skills and sweat to work in remote areas to create a beautiful community. The culture that you will encounter, as well as the people with whom you will interact and the community that you have worked hard to build, will undoubtedly change your life.
Volunteer’s Roles Responsibilities and Activities
Participants can help improve the local community by volunteering at the local library, community center, women's empowerment, beach clean-ups, tree planting, stray animal assistance, indigenous tribe cultural preservation, assisting in all-inclusive accessibility beach, bottle cap ramp for wheelchair accessibility on beach, fixing up homes, schools, community areas, or public buildings. Your coordinator will place you at the project that needs your help.
As a participant, you will contribute to the advancement of the local community in a number of ways. Our participation has had a significant impact on the neighborhood in the past, and the local residents like the program.
Join one of our community service programs to make a difference in the lives of others. Whether you want to improve the education and knowledge of local children and adults through the Teaching Abroad program, demonstrate love and care for orphaned and vulnerable children, or assist with community development initiatives, you will undoubtedly leave a great and lasting impression on others.
Arrival and Orientation
Our team will meet you at Juan Santamaria Airport and transport you to your community house or host family. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and enjoy Costa Rica's hospitality. In a formal atmosphere, you will meet your coordinators and fellow group members. You will learn more about Costa Rica and your program at the orientation. Later in the tour, you'll go to Puerto Jiménez, which is known for its waterfalls and natural beauty.
Accommodation
The community house may accommodate 10 to 15 people. Group housing is given in a hostel-style setting, with gender-specific dormitory rooms. The group leaders each have their own sleeping quarters. Wi-Fi is available in the dining and living areas, as well as the toilets. Depending on the size of the gathering, host families may be offered as an alternative. Our host families have undergone comprehensive background checks, have been a part of our program for several years, and come highly recommended by previous participants. Upgraded accommodations are available upon request.
Free Time Travel Activities in Costa Rica
Puerto Jiménez, which is surrounded by fresh water, is home to many local citizens and animals. A great site to plan an excursion, stock up on supplies, eat a delicious dinner, and get some rest before hitting the trails.
Meanwhile, you may unwind and enjoy Puerto Jimenez. If this is your last day in the program, our staff will help you make future arrangements. Those who remain committed to the program will be awarded a two-day weekend to relax. Placements that persist more than a week are treated similarly. You'll be working on the project Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are completely yours to do with as you like.
