How to Help Victims and Survivors of Brazil Flood

Heavy storms caused flooding of May, 2024  in  southern Brazil has claimed at least 95 lives and 130 are missing  and 155,000 people have been left homeless. The state government declared a state of public calamity and has sent rescue helicopters to search for stranded residents in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Experts say the torrential rains in the region have been well above normal for this time of year.

The heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding, leading to many casualties and people going missing. Rescue efforts are underway to find those who are trapped by the high waters. According to experts, the amount of rain that has fallen in southern Brazil in recent days is unusually high for this season.

How you can help victims and survivors of Brazil flood

Almost 15,000 soldiers, firefighters, police and volunteers were hard at work in planes and boats, even jet skis, to rescue those stuck and transport aid.

The UN Refugee Agency, alongside its partners, is aiding flood-affected communities in Brazil by assisting rescue operations, conducting assessments of urgent requirements, providing crucial information to those affected, and offering emergency shelter to Brazilian nationals, refugees, and migrants.

Rio Grande do Sul Humanitarian Campaign

Gisele Bündchen has partnered with Brazil Foundation to create the Luz Alliance Fund, which is accepting donations to aid the people of Rio Grande do Sul affected by floods. By contributing to the fund, you can directly support the recovery efforts.
